From the olive grove, gardens and terraces of VILLA LATINA you will admire the Garda Lake as you were standing in a balcony overlooking a unique amazing natural amphitheater.

At a glance you could embrance from Monte Baldo, to the Sirmione Peninsula, from Desenzano Gulf, the Manerba Rocks, Toscolano and finally end up on the woods of Monte De Nervo.

You will discover the charm of these sites, that have always enchanted our anchestors, who had enriched the lake area, with evidences of their presence.

And so, during the age of the great Giulio Cesare, the famous latin poet Gaio Valerio Catullo, established one of his main residences on the Garda Lake costs.

Nowadays at the very top of the Sirmione peninsula, between the sulphur water springs, you will admire the ruins of a Noble Roman Villa, named after the great poet:''Grotte di Catullo''

Not only the Lake landscape, but also the Latin and Italian Classic Literature are full of passages praising the beauty and relevance of Garda Lake in the history ( known in the past as Benaco).

Catullo dedicated to the peacefully sightseeing of Garda Lake waters a brief poem Sirmione:

'' Gaudete vosque, Lydiae lacus undae ... ''

'' O quid solutis est beatius curis. ''

CATULLO - NUGAE ( CANZONIERE ) - SIRMIONE

that, could be translated as:

Could the waters of the etruscan lake, enjoy their beauty ...

Is there anything more beatiful than leave your pains.

This passage confirms the theory that before the latins reach the Lake coasts the etruscan people already knew the beauty of Garda Lake.

During the age of the emperor Cesare Ottaviano Augusto, the great Publio Virgilio Marone, who was born close to Mantova, had to realize the masterpiece that should celebrate the birth of ROME: ENEIDE:

''Hinc quoque quingentos in se Mezentius armat,

<Quos patre Benaco velatus harundine glauca

Mincius infesta ducebat in aequora pinu.''

VIRGILIO - AENEIDOS ( ENEIDE ) - LIBRO X - Versi 204 - 206.

Centuries later Virgilio was back, talking about the Garda Lake thanks to the great poet Dante Alighieri in the masterpiece that represents a milestone in the history of the Italian heritage: LA DIVINA COMMEDIA:

''Suso in Italia bella giace un laco,

a piè de l'Alpe che serra Lamagna

sovra Tiralli, c'ha nome Benaco.

Per mille fonti, credo, e più si bagna

tra Garda e Val Camonica e Pennino

de l'acqua che nel detto laco stagna.''

DANTE ALIGHIERI - LA DIVINA COMMEDIA - CANTICA I - CANTO XX - Versi 61-66

that, could be translated as:

Sitten in the beatiful Italy is placed a Lake,

at the bottom of the Alps that close Germany

near Tirolo, named Benaco.

Through thousend of springs, I believe, and more

Garda and Val Camonica and the Apennines

are wet of the water that in that lake is collected

Can you believe that, when the sky is clean, from VILLA LATINA terrace you can actually see the Apennines profile ? Well, you can. Come and check it out.

In the following passages, Dante refers to a place in the Garda Lake with uncertain location, but that is believed to be where the Tignalga torrent, that runs close to VILLA LATINA, joins the Lake.

''Loco è nel mezzo là dove 'l trentino

pastore e quel di Brescia e 'l veronese

segnar poria, s'e' fesse quel cammino.''

The tradition says that this site is at a few minutes by car from VILLA LATINA.

And again:

''Ivi convien che tutto quanto caschi

ciò che 'n grembo a Benaco star non può,

e fassi fiume giù per verdi paschi''

DANTE ALIGHIERI - LA DIVINA COMMEDIA - CANTICA I - CANTO XX - Versi 67-69 e 73-75

More recently there are a lot of poets, artists, writers, such as Goethe who were used to spend time in Limone del Garda, about 15 minutes by car from VILLA LATINA, enchanted by the beauty of the Lake.

From VILLA LATINA in NAVLA'you would admire some of the more famous spot of the Lake and reach most of others in very short time.

Is impossibile to summarize in a few rows the beauty and the treasure of art and culture that surronds such a pearl as the Garda Lake.

So, why don't come here and check this out ?
